We even had a gentleman all the way from NYC, who was visiting his grandchildren in Urbana, stop in and see us, which was delightful. She kept count last night as we directed people to the Advanced Visualization Laboratory 3D visualization demonstrations and tells me that, over the course of three hours, according to the folks down at the National Petascale Computing Facility, over 250 people came by to see Blue Waters. She’s the one who first conceived Petascale Day in 2012 and now oversees it as an annual event. And if they’re not responsive, consider how you might help replace them in 2014 with people who genuinely have the best interests of our country at heart.īarbara Jewett is a good friend and colleague in Public Affairs at NCSA who very ably manages NCSA’s print and online publication, Access Magazine. Please, call your representatives and tell them that you really, really need them to cooperate with one another and behave like adults. It’s not just a matter of economics, or funding for critical social programs or important research in health, science, and technology. And a lot of damage has already been done. Too much is at stake for us to repeat this fiasco. But in the end, we need to make sure no one can hold hostage our government and its ability to function ever again. And there’s a lot of finger-pointing and spinning right now from the most likely culprits, who are trying to employ the logical fallacy of false equivalence to their own benefit. There are a lot of (non-tinfoil) theories floating around about how this came to happen, who was ultimately responsible, and so forth. ![]()
